Eyes are a beautiful part of the human face and can be highlighted and enhanced with properly applied makeup. When trying to emphasize the eye area choose colors that work with your natural tones.

Colors can be added to coordinate with the clothing or accessories worn. Keep in mind however that some colors are best suited for certain skin tones while others aren’t. Aside from the application and technique of makeup, the correct colors will determine the outcome of your final look and appearance.

Many effects can be achieved through eye color and makeup, from light and pearly to dark and dramatic. Choosing the right look for you will be based on your natural skin tones. Once you have an idea on the colors or tones you wish to apply remember that to achieve the proper look may require as many as four different shades of eye shadows. The four different eye shadow tones needed are usually necessary to create a defined and balanced appearance, they include; a neutral tone for base color, a color to act as the main color, darker shade for emphasis and highlighting with a light shade.

Application of these shades should be done in stages and practiced several times to get the right look. In the beginning achieving the right look may be difficult but it is not impossible, guide and practice will help you become a pro at eye makeup application.

Items commonly used to apply eye makeup include; Eye foundation, four shadow tones and a small, medium and large eye shadow brush. All used for different areas to enhance the natural shape and curves on the eye area.

Application of eye shadow

  1. Step one-
Begin by covering the eyelid with eye foundation. Use a small amount and evenly spread it out with your fingertip onto the whole lid area. The coverage should be from the edge of the top eyelashes to the eyebrow area. Allow the foundation to dry before continuing to the next step.

  2. Step two-
Apply the neutral base tone across the whole eyelid with the large eye shadow brush. The color should lightly blend toward the outer lid area.

  3. Step three-
Apply the main color with the medium size eye shadow brush. The application should be done with even strokes from the corner of the eye to the outer edge. The main color should only be applied to the eyelid socket area and not go past the socket line.

  4. Step four-
The darkest shade should be applied to the socket line with the small eye shadow brush. Even thin strokes from the corner and out are the correct method to achieve a thin line appearance.

  5. Step five-
You may at this point decide to either blend the dark line with a large eye shadow brush to give a blended appearance or leaving the line as is, to provide for a more dramatic look.

  6. Step six-
Apply the dark color to the bottom lash area by using the small eye shadow brush. Work from the center eye area across the outer corner. Be sure to keep the make up neat and thin in this area.

  7. Step seven-
To enhance the shape of your brows, use the light shade chosen to act as a highlighter. Apply this color with a small eye shadow brush in the top outer area of the eyelid where the brow meats. Be sure not to get any makeup or color on the eyebrows themselves and ensure that the brush is clean form other colors before highlighting this area.

Once you have achieved the look you are after, mascara can be applied to your lashes to give them a long lash appearance.

Mascara
Mascara is a make up used to enhance the length of natural eyelashes. Long eyelashes are desire by most women to open up the eye appearance and provide for a more beautiful look. Mascara is not hard to apply. If you have never used mascara just follow the simple steps below, and don’t forget that the proper removal of any make up on a daily basis is a key factor in your skin looking its best for many years.

Tools that may be needed to apply mascara include; Mascara, eyelash curler, tissue, cotton swab, eye make up remover and an eyelash comb.

How to apply mascara

  1. Step one-
An eyelash curler should be used if you have straight lashes. Curl your eyelashes before you apply mascara.

  2. Step two-
The top lashes are most important but start with the bottom. The trick to applying mascara to the lower lashes is to hold the mascara wand in an up-down position. Make stroking motions starting at the inner edge of the lashes. Continue this the whole width of the eye.

  3. Step three-
Apply a small amount of mascara only to the bottom lashes. If too much mascara is applied to the bottom lashes, simply remove the excess with a tissue or old mascara wand.

  4. Step four-
Using the mascara wand to apply the makeup on the top lashes, start on the topside of the lashes working the brush from the base of the lashes to the tip. This procedure should be repeated on the bottom side of the top lashes as well. Do not apply too much mascara at once, allow first coat to dry then apply more if desire.

To remove any clumps of mascara, use an eyelash brush and comb the lash area through.
Removal of the mascara will be an important part of wearing it on a daily basis. See our area on how to remove eye make up for further information.
