An occasion such as your wedding is one such moment where your attire may need to be perfect in every way. For most men a nice suit and tie, dress shoes and a hair cut is really all that’s needed to be suitably dressed for a formal event. An event such this which is your wedding, will however require a bit more time and consideration for attire, both for yourself, the other groomsmen and the complete wedding party. Here are a few pointers and attire style guidelines that are based on the weddings formality to better help you get prepared for your wedding day presentation.

Informal wedding-

  • Business suit, white dress shirt and tie
  • Black shoes (clean and polished) and dark color socks
  • Depending on the time of year, colors can vary however, in the winter months consider the use of dark colors only.
  • Corsage can be worn.
     

Groomsmen- attire style is same as above. 

Semiformal wedding (day time)-

  • Formal suit jacket color should depend on the time of year.
  • Vest or cummerbund, tie or bow tie
  • Dark trousers and white dress shirt
  • Back shoes and dark socks
  • Corsage should be worn.
     

Groomsmen- suit is to be a solid color shirt with matching tie that is of a similar color to the attire of the bridal party.

Semiformal wedding (evening)-

  • Formal suit or dinner style jacket with matching trousers (black preferable).
  • Vest or cummerbund, white shirt, black bow tie
  • Cuff links or studs may be used.
  • Corsage
     

Groomsmen- should be dressed partially similar to the groom, with everyone in matching colors.

Formal wedding (day time)-

  • Stroller jacket or cutaway style (black or gray)
  • White high collared shirt 
  • Waistcoat often gray in color
  • Striped trouser with striped tie and the use of cuff links or studs.
  • Corsage
     

Grooms men- jacket style similar, dark trousers, all shirts white, ties matching, cuff links or studs may be used.

Formal wedding (evening)-

  • Black dinner jacket and trousers
  • White dress shirt, black bow tie, waistcoat, cummerbund or vest 
  • Cuff links and corsage.
     

Groomsmen- all matching in the same suit, white dress shirt and tie, cummerbund or vest to match, cuff links if desired and corsage.

Very formal wedding (daytime)-

  • Cutaway coat in black or gray color, striped trousers
  • Wing-collared shirt, Ascot and gloves
  • Cuff links and corsage.
     

Groomsmen- similar dress style as above (gloves optional)

Very formal wedding (evening)-

  • Black tailcoat, white waist coat
  • Matching striped trousers trimmed with satin
  • White wing-collared shirt with white bow tie 
  • Patent leather shoes, gloves, studs or cuff links can be worn
  • Corsage.
     

Groomsmen- attire should be very similar to groom but slightly different (bow tie color, style of coat or dress shirt)
